Immigration News
The USCIS has just released its May, 2004 list of employers -- and the fines imposed on them -- for hiring workers not authorized to work in the United States. The average fine was $37,045.00. The government's release serves as a monthly reminder of the importance for every employer to have periodic, private audits of its I-9 compliance program.

Schubert Bellwoar can conduct private I-9 audits of an employer's records in order to identify problems and make corrections to a client's I-9 forms before the USCIS decides to make its own inspection. Such private audits will likely reveal a number of correctable errors. The discovery and correction of mistakes permits an employer to avoid costly penalties and also demonstrates good faith compliance with the law's verification requirements. Any employer wishing to have a private audit performed should contact James M. Tyler, Esquire at 215-587-0160 or at jtyler@sbcq.com.
